It is possible that the massive python did not notice it was eating a rather spiky porcupine because it was nighttime when it found the meal – as the entire animal was already inside its belly. The snake was already digesting the meal when the porcupine’s quills pierced its insides.
The piercings were just too much for the 13-ft African rock python to handle, so it fell from a cliff unto a cycle track at Lake Eland Game Reserve, near Port Shepstone, South Africa. It was there that a biker found it lying motionless.
