It appears that speculations about earthquakes, tsunamis and other natural disasters taking place on or before the Supermoon’s occurence on March 19th remain, well, speculations. Recently, astrologers argued that Japan’s twin catastrophe last March 11 were influenced by the March 19th Supermoon.

The fact is, scientists revealed the Moon was actually closer to apogee than perigee on March 11, at approximately 400,000 km (240,000 mi) from the Earth.

In astronomy, a supermoon is a full or new moon that coincides with a close approach by the Moon to the Earth. Perigee is the point at which the moon is closest in its orbit to the Earth while Apogee is the exact opposite.
