What happen to Albert was very heartbreaking, but was more heartbreaking is the fact that statistics show that even after many have viewed the beating of Albert that little to nothing will be done to rectify the growing violence amongst teenagers. As I viewed the footage I notice that the beating took place in front of a community center in broad daylight with dozens of teenagers and no parents nor authority. Where were all the parents during this time? I’m sure most would argue that the parents were at work, but when does work become an excuse to parenting. Half of my life I was raised in the projects where drugs and violence was prominent, and the significant of the matter is that I was raised with a single parent who happened to be my father. Though my dad had to work hard to support two girls, I never forget the days my dad popped up at my schools, at my bus stops, picked me up and took me to school on his vacations and days off. My father was a parent!! He took the time, he kept all avenues of communication open with my sister and myself and knew what we were doing at all times. Parents are no longer living up to their titles as “parents”!! According to the Merriam webster dictionary a parent is one that begets or brings forth offspring and a person that brings up and cares for another. In this case any responsible adult is a parent to a child regardless if the child is yours or not. American families and neighborhoods are lacking the parents that they use to have that would parent all children. There were houses along the street where this beating took place and I’m sure someone was home at the time, but no one took the time out to intervene. Parents have to take the time out to raise their children as well as the youth as a whole.
