iOS 5 has been jailbroken as many times as there have been betas – now that the real-deal is out, it’s time for another jailbreak. The iPhone Dev Team released a beta of redsn0w, a tethered jailbreak for Apple’s iOS 5 running gadgets.

It’s not complete yet, it’s intended for devs of jailbroken apps that want to debug their applications, the Dev Team says there are still too many problems with this version of redsn0w to be useful for the regular users.

Also, the iPad 2 is not supported and neither is the new iPhone 4S (not that anyone has it yet, it officially launches on Tuesday). If you’ve hack-unlocked your iGadget, you should stay away from this jailbreak too.

This is a tethered jailbreak (except for the iPhone 3GS), meaning you have to boot your iPhone/iPod/iPad by hooking it up to a computer and using redsn0w every time you restart or things won’t work as expected.

On the upside, there’s a Windows version of redsn0w available now, not just Mac (but the iPhone Dev Team remind this is targeted at developers).

The Galaxy R is the new Android 2.3 phone model launched by Samsung and it’s a kind of a cheaper version of the Galaxy S2. This phone features a Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 and Tegra 2 Graphics processor, with a 4.2″ display (480×800), a 5 Mpixels camera and 8Gb of internal memory.

Apple Inc. won a victory Thursday in its global patent battle with Samsung Electronics Co. when a judge in Australia issued a temporary injunction blocking the South Korean company from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer there.

Justice Annabelle Bennett ruled that the Samsung product couldn’t be sold in Australia if it used features such as touch-screen technology that U.S.-based Apple claims infringe patents used in its iPad tablet.

The ruling is a skirmish in a wider global war in which two of the world’s biggest technology companies are vying for supremacy in the US$100 billion market for tablet computers and smartphones. Behind that stands another conflict.

“In the end it’s a battle between Apple and Google,” said Paul Budde, an independent telecommunications analyst. Google Inc.’s Android operating system runs many of the computers and mobile devices that have been the target of Apple’s patent suits.

Mr. Budde called the Australian decision a short-term victory but long-term loss for Apple: “I can clearly see that Apple has a case that it has created some innovative new technology, but on the other hand the reality is we live in an open world and you cannot because of one innovation stop the rest of the world going in similar directions.”

Apple, the world’s biggest technology company by market value, has already persuaded a court in Germany to ban sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab in Europe’s biggest economy. Other countries where the two companies have launched patent claims against one another include the U.S., Japan and South Korea.

Samsung hinted it might appeal the Sydney court ruling and vowed to pursue a counterclaim, alleging that Apple infringes on some of its wireless-technology patents. Samsung last week said it will try to stop the sale of Apple’s iPhone 4S in France and Italy, arguing it infringes on patents covering third-generation transmission technology.

“We are disappointed with this ruling and Samsung will be seeking legal advice on its options,” the company said in a written statement. “We will continue to legally assert our intellectual property rights against those who violate Samsung’s patents and free ride on our technology.”

During the hearing earlier this month, Samsung’s lawyers warned that preventing sales of the Galaxy Tab could leave the computer “commercially dead” in Australia, due to the speed of innovation in the market. It would be unlikely for sales to begin in time for the crucial holiday-shopping season, they argued. Apple has sold an estimated 500,000 iPads in Australia, according to a Credit Suisse report in June.

iOS5 is Now Available Worldwide

We can expect the Samsung Galaxy S III sometime in 2012, if we are to believe what the photo below has to offer. The image in question not only tells us when, but what we can expect from the yet to be announced Samsung flagship.

In a slide detailing the progression of the Galaxy S family, the III sits in the top right, and next to it a juicy specs list follows.

Supposedly the Galaxy S III will bring to the table a Exynos 4212 1.8 GHz dual core (sorry not quad core just yet) processor, twinned with 2GBs of RAM. There’s also a 4.6 inch Super AMOLED HD display that will provide HD resolution without the PenTile technology found in the current Samsung screens and to finish the list off, the upcoming S will supposedly have a whopping 12MP camera utilizing a W750 BSI CMOS sensor for image control.

The tipster who passed all this information on also mentioned a few other goodies, such as LTE and NFC support (which will tie in nicely with Google Wallet) as well as a flat display, more in line with the Galaxy S family and not as some suspected, akin to the upcoming Nexus Prime. Interestingly enough, the S III will also apparently include the four typical Android buttons, despite a 99% certainty that it will be running the latest Ice Cream Sandwich build of Google’s mobile OS.

Now as a disclaimer to any leaked content we find floating about the internets, there are a number of things to increase the illegitamacy of this leak. For one, spelling errors are rife on the slide, alongside the original Galaxy S being misquoted to have run a Exynos chipset of its own. It also doesn’t correlate entirely with the 4Chan specs of the Galaxy S III but there are some similarities.

It’s probable that we’ll get a display size of around 4.6 inches, a dual core nearing the 2GHz mark, a rear camera dipping into double digit megapixels and NFC support, but beyond that don’t take what we’re showing here as gospel, just a taste of things to come.
