But did you know that the origin of Valentine’s Day, or Saint Valentine’s Day, comes from the life and death of a Christian martyr? According to author Martha Zimmerman, the date traditionally celebrated as St. Valentine’s Day finds it origin in the Roman festival of romance called Lupercalia, when the gods Juno and Pan were honored. It was a fertility festival or a lover’s holiday looking forward to the return of Spring. In the fifth century, in an attempt to abolish the pagan festival, Pope Gelasius changed Lupercalia and its February 15 date to February 14 and called it Saint Valentine’s Day. Even though the names and the date were changed, the emphasis continued to be on love.

- If you’re 65 or older, female and single, there are only thirty-four men for every 100 of you, so good luck.
- There are more than 900 dating establishments throughout Philippines to help you find that special someone.
- More than twelve hundred chocolate and candy-producing factories exist.
- In a day, about six thousand marriages take place.
- Each person eats an average of almost twenty-six pounds of candy each year.
- There are around twenty-two thousand florists in the Philippines where you can get your sweetie some flowers.
- If jewelry is your thing, there are nearly twenty-nine thousand stores nationwide, so you’re sure to find something you like.

1. Take the entire day off. Devote it to one another.

10. Have dinner at home by the fireplace, or light candles and have romantic music.
