Hack The Automated Poll of Comelec for 2010 Election For 100M
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has filed a resolution setting aside P100 million as an incentive to anyone who can convincingly demonstrate the weakness of the automated poll.
He said he would rather revert to the manual counting of votes if the computerized system would lead to wholesale cheating.
“The most effective way to test if indeed a system is credible, reliable and tamper-proof or fraud-proof is to offer a sizable prize to whoever can hack and convincingly show the weaknesses of the system,”
Cayetano said in his draft resolution.
Hackers are welcome but the prize money is out of the question.

This is the reaction of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to the proposal of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano to set-up a reward of P100 Million for anyone who could successfully hack into the automated election system for the 2010 elections.
“The idea of inviting hackers to take a crack at our automated election system is not new. The COMELEC has already made a public announcement before that it is set to employ ethical hackers who will be contractually obligated to test the system for weaknesses so we can have it addressed before implementation. This is actually part of our plan,”
said COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez.
The poll body, however, said it is against the proposed P100 Million ‘prize money’.
The poll exec further clarified that if there is anyone who should offer a reward, it should be the vendors and not the COMELEC.
Jimenez, meanwhile, echoed the observation of Senator Loren Legarda who said there is no man-made system on Earth that is perfect or fool-proof. The lady Senator, however, added that “there are enough safeguards in the law and the regulations put in place by the COMELEC that could prevent tampering.”
“If there are experts saying that the poll computer system can be hacked, there are also those who say that hacking or tampering can be prevented… Let’s give poll automation a try in the 2010 elections,” Legarda added.
“The COMELEC assures Senator Cayetano and the Filipino people that we have enough safeguards to thwart any attack that would seriously undermine the automation of the May 10, 2010 national and local elections,” Jimenez concluded.

I predict this may come out better compared to any are predicting. We don’t want to jinx it by being overly optimistic and the media wish to lower our expectations to be able to suppress the vote.
Testing…

comelec.. weaksters!
test
There is no way of hacking the results because each system is not connected to the internet. I’ve heard that everything is just a storage device transferred from one place to another for counting purposes. Even if there is a way to hack, recounting of votes is very easy because everything is computerized. ahehehehe

The US has been using automated systems in their elections. Have they been hacked? Why didn’t we just purchase the same system they have instead of going through the motion of bidding out and then testing if this ‘new’ system is fool-proof or not. The senate will again waste a lot of time, effort and taxpayer’s money debating on this ‘new system’ issue.
Sa attached photo naman, based on the caption and the first sentence of this post, akala ko si Sen. Cayetano yan. LOL.

I wonder if Ms Cayetano is speaking from herself or with the advise of IT expert in her behind. Hope our public officials will ask their advisers in case they have doubts on the process
If I wanted to cheat on the elections, I will pay hackers to try to hack the Comelec’s system but will not disclose if the system is already hacked.
And if I am the hacker, I will contact these politicians if I can successfully exploit the system. If that is the case, I can name my price.
Just a thought.

I think 100 million is already a bloated amount to offer someone to hack the election system. One could just pay $50,000 to some chinese or russian youngster who are virtual hackers to do this stuff.
uu nga noh? heheheh
