The Unpopular President, the Teetering Economy and The SONA to Come

Arroyo, after surveys conducted throughout the country by even the most reputable polling firms, has become the most distrusted and unpopular president of the Philippine Republic after the 1986 Edsa Revolution.

There is widespread distrust on the President by the people basing largely on her performance in office. Her unpopularity has been met by the entire Arroyo staff in Malacanang as something-not-be-afraid-of thing. For to them, the President governs not for popularity but for progress and prosperity. Thus, the president finds it a necessity to invite people to listen to her SATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS. It is in the SONA – that she would outline and summarize the substantive achievements that have taken place under her watch and how these achievements have brought us closer to our vision for the country.

How can she deliver the bad news to her people and announce that the Philippine Economy us teetering on the brink of a recession? This is one concrete achievement it has rightfully claimed and announced to the whole world in the past. Investments have been shrinking in double – digit rates, while consumer demans has been softening as people choose to save money in anticipation for gloomy days ahead.

How can the President report to her people the profligate spending on image building, useless junkets and graft-tainted projects?

If the President can no longer boast of a record economic growth, tell the truth on profligate spending on image building, useless junkets and graft-tainted projects to the demoralized Filipinos, to enliven the spirit of the Filipinos. Arroyo must clearly and unequivocally declare that these is a Presidential Election next year.
