COLUMBUS MARATHON: OCTOBER 19, 2009
The 30th annual Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon and ½ Marathon will take place Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009. The Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon retains its place as one of the 25 largest marathons in the United States.
- Marathon: The Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon starts near the intersection of Broad and Third Streets in downtown Columbus at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 18 for walkers and runners. There will be a capacity field of 5,000 in the marathon and the course will be open until 3:00 p.m.
- ½ Marathon: The event will start in tandem with the full marathon at 7:30 a.m. with a capacity of 9,000 athletes. The ½ marathon athletes will run or walk with the full marathoners until they turn left onto Nationwide Blvd. to the finish at 13.1 miles.
- 5K Corporate Wellness Division: This 5K event will feature teams from corporations and other organizations. The event will start at 7:45 a.m. at the start line near Broad and Third and will finish with marathoners and ½ marathoners on Nationwide Blvd. beside Nationwide Arena. The 5K will be limited to the first 1,000 registrants.
- Ringling Bros. Red Nose Children’s Run: The Red Nose Run will be held Saturday, October 17 at Franklin Park Adventure Center, 1747 E. Broad St. The run will begin at 1 p.m., and families and kids are encouraged to come early for the activity expo from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Health & Fitness Expo: The Expo will be open from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Hall D of the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Expo will feature more than 70 running and health and fitness related booths, interactive games, registration (if there are any spots left) and packet pick-up. There is no race day packet pickup or registration.
