LOS ANGELES (dpa) – Farrah Fawcett, the blonde beauty of the original Charlie’s Angels and the pin-up poster star of 1970s America, died Thursday, aged 62, after a prolonged and at times very public battle with cancer.

Farrah Fawcett died at St Johns Health Centre in Santa Monica with her friends and family at her side, including long-time companion Ryan O’Neal. On Monday O’Neal, 68, proposed to Fawcett, in a real-life update of his 1970 hit movie Love Story. The couple had planned to marry as soon as she was strong enough to participate in a ceremony, he had told ABC News.

She knew that would be her lasting legacy and the two-hour documentary Farrah’s Story was aired on NBC on May 15th, 2009.Farrah Fawcett

The documentary was watched by nearly 9 million people in its premiere airing and it was re-aired on the broadcast network’s cable stations MSNBC, Bravo and Oxygen.
